Java Update 1 for Snow Leopard

beaTunes2 logoThe other day, Apple released Java Update 1 for Snow Leopard. I'd like to urge all beaTunes 2 users to install the update. The simplest way to do this, is to run the Software Updater (hiding in the Apple menu).

Among other things, the update fixes a nasty bug that leads to quite a few crashes.

Snow Leopard woes

beaTunes2 logoSnow Leopard is released and the crash reports are coming in... Unfortunately, beaTunes is one of the apps that does not seem to have a smooth start. The 14.1-b02-90 32Bit JVM on the original Snow Leopard release has a bug that causes occasional crashes in the UpdateStatusLabel-thread. It's already fixed in Apple's internal dev version, but not shipped yet. Hopefully that will happen soon...

Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard? You got it!

beaTunes2 logoAfter the 2.0.13 glitch, I release beaTunes 2.0.14 yesterday. It addresses the incompatibility issue with OS X 10.4 (aka Tiger) introduced in 2.0.13. It also addresses another issue faced on Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) - non-44.1kHz files potentially lead to application crashes. Hopefully that means that all critical issues are fixed as of now and we can all look forward to the release of Snow Leopard on 8/28/2009.

Enjoy!

beaTunes for Snow Leopard, now in pretty

beaTunes2 logoOK - it's not 64bit, but the latest 2.0 version of beaTunes does address some Snow Leopard issues and the overall experience should be a lot more fun - at the very least, look better. And isn't it all about looks? ;-)

You can get 2.0.13 from the regular download page on www.beatunes.com.

Feedback about Snow Leopard compatibility is very welcome!

64bit, the 2nd

beaTunes2 logoIf you are running Snow Leopard or some other 64bit VM, feel free to check out this 64 bit Early Access version of beaTunes. It probably still has some visual problems, but should more or less work.

beaTunes-2-0-10-osx-64.dmg

Feedback is very welcome!

Update: There were some things wrong with this one, so I updated the build. Same link. Give it a shot.

64 bit beaTunes Beta for Snow Leopard

beaTunes2 logoFor a while now, Apple has handed out developer seeds of its next generation operating system dubbed Snow Leopard. Its focus lies on making OS X a true 64 bit operating system. For us developers this means that the old 32 bit QuickTime API will probably not work anymore.

And because the regular beaTunes still has some dependencies to QuickTime and is also still compatible with OS X 10.4, you can't just run it on Snow Leopard.

But! I'm working on migrating beaTunes to 64 bit. Unfortunately, as a side effect, I will have to drop support for OS X 10.4.

If you are running Snow Leopard, feel free to check out this 64 bit Early Access version of beaTunes. It still has some visual problems (e.g. the toolbar has the wrong gradient), but it should more or less work.

beaTunes-2-0-8-osx-64.dmg

Feedback is very welcome!

Update: Seems like this build is working fine on Leopard 64 bit, but not yet in Snow Leopard. Analysis most likely leads to a program crash.
