beaTunes - now with Retina support

beaTunes2 logoGood news for owners of those shiny new MacBookPros with Retina displays! beaTunes 3.5.6 now supports the high resolution displays. Even though beaTunes is written in Java and Java does not yet support resolution independence, Apple's Java 6 has some limited built-in support that beaTunes takes advantage of. The only exception is the startup splash-screen—it's simply too early in the startup process to be supported.

Anyhow. I hope you enjoy the extra crispness!

Additionally, the release contains a couple of bug fixes and minor improvements.

Server Trouble

beaTunes2 logoFor a couple of days now, beaTunes users were unable to connect to the central database that is queried when using Online Resources. Even though the database isn't central for beaTunes to work (pretty much all provided results can also be calculated offline), I want to apologize for the extended outage. At the same time, I'd like to assure you that I'm working hard to bring the database back online. For those of you curious about what caused the problem—it was a harddrive failure. Guess, I'm switching to RAID5 after all to speed up the restore process.
